Let’s reduce the stress of academic life.
about me
My name is Jaymie. I love reading, writing, and trying to come up with easy, efficient study skills and organizational methods.
In high school, I obsessed over grades, extracurriculars, and applying to “good schools” that I knew nothing about. I always wanted to look like I had everything under control on my own. I chose to skip lunch and stay up late everyday because that seemed easier than having to ask someone for help with my academics. I graduated with a high GPA, awards, and acceptance letters at the expense of my mental and physical wellbeing.
I improved at balancing academics and personal life at UCLA, where I double majored in Psychology and Asian American Studies. While witnessing many sunrises from study lounges, I adjusted my study techniques and schedules until I figured out what worked best for me. I also realized how much stress I could have avoided in high school if I had simply asked for help when I needed it; editing English essays for my STEM friends in exchange for physics tutoring saved more than just my grades.
Now, my personal goal is to help students manage academics in a healthier, more efficient way.
I try to combine my own experiences with what I’ve learned in college counseling workshops and educational therapy courses to personalize the way I work with each individual student. I want to help students figure out what works best for them, so that homework and college apps don’t make them sick (I mean that both figuratively and literally).
I must admit that I’ve reverted back to my high school sleeping schedule, but that’s because tutoring kids in Japan via Skype makes me feel like I live in two different time zones. When I’m not helping with homework, I’m usually journaling, fangirling over my favorite pop groups, or blogging about books. I also coordinate a scholarship and cultural exchange program for Japanese American students.
